The Aylesbury Estate

To deliver meaningful impact across the Aylesbury Estate, Youth Futures and Peckham Business Community. Driving quick impact wins across our priorities, while working with the community to facilitate long term change

MISSION

ELEVATING EVERY RESIDENT'S STORY
When I became MP, nearly two-thirds (63%) of the casework coming into my office was housing-related, much of this originating from the Aylesbury Estate. By working alongside residents and putting sustained pressure on Southwark Council to improve its housing services, we've helped drive better communication and faster responses to repairs and complaints. Housing casework to my office has since fallen by around 20%, a sign that more residents are getting the support they need directly from the council. Through initiatives like Repairs Action Days on the Aylesbury Estate, we've helped build stronger links between residents and housing officers, leading to quicker action and better outcomes.

The Plan

CURRENT FOCUS

"Repairs and the community mural have been the main areas of focus so far."

What we’ve achieved so far

The Aylesbury Taskforce and I pushed for Southwark Council's to host a Repairs Action Day on the Aylesbury Estate. Residents were able to raise concerns directly with housing officers and contractors, with 64 repairs reported, 42 completed on the day, and 12 follow-up appointments arranged. Everyone deserves a safe, warm and well-maintained home, and I will continue working with residents, the TRA, and the Council to ensure issues are resolved quickly.

Residents told us they wanted something that would brighten up the Aylesbury Estate and celebrate the community that calls it home. Working with the Aylesbury TRA, Southwark Council, Surrey Square Primary School and Mentivity, we've helped turn that idea into reality through a new community mural.

Designed with input from local residents, schools and community groups, the mural will create a lasting visual focal point on the estate and reflect the pride, creativity and identity of the local community. The initial painting of the hoarding has now been completed, with the finished artwork coming soon.
