MISSION

ELEVATING EVERY RESIDENT'S STORY
Young people deserve to have a real say in the decisions that affect their lives and access to the opportunities they need to succeed. Through Young Futures, I'm working to ensure that young people's voices are heard, their ambitions are supported, and they can access the skills, networks and opportunities needed to build the future they want.

CURRENT FOCUS

"Young people don't need to be told what their future should look like - they need to be given the chance to shape it. That's why I'm working with young people, schools, employers and community groups to create more opportunities and ensure their voices are at the heart of local decision-making."

What we’ve achieved so far

Youth Summit

Youth Summit: Turning Young People's Ideas into Action

Our Youth Summit in April brought together young people and council representatives to discuss the changes they want to see in the community. Young people spoke clearly about the need for greater access to opportunities and shared their vision for a dedicated youth hub at the vacant Coburg site.

We're already acting on what we heard. In July, I'll be hosting an Apprenticeship Day to connect local students with businesses and major employers, creating new pathways into work experience, training and apprenticeships. I'm also continuing to work with council leaders to push for the redevelopment of the Coburg site and the creation of a central youth hub for young people across the constituency.

Lunch and Listen: Taking Young People's Voices into Decision-Making

As part of the Young Futures campaign, we're hosting a series of Lunch and Listen sessions in local schools to hear directly from young people about the issues that matter most to them. The first session took place at St Thomas the Apostle College, where students put me in the hot seat with their questions on everything from politics to local issues affecting their community.

The session was followed by a roundtable discussion with older students, who shared their biggest concerns about life in the area and suggested practical improvements they would like to see. These conversations are helping to ensure that young people's experiences and ideas directly inform my work as their MP and the priorities of the Young Futures campaign.
