Together
we rise

My name is Miatta Fahnbulleh and I'm the Member of Parliament for Peckham.

Meet Miatta

I’m proud to be standing to be your Labour and Co-operative MP for Peckham, taking up the baton from Harriet Harman.

It was in the Sierra Leonean community here in Peckham where my family found refuge when we fled from West Africa when I was child. It was this community that taught me the values of compassion and solidarity that have shaped my politics. And it was here I first understood just how much the system is failing all of us. No matter how hard people work, how talented they are, they can still face poverty and be denied the opportunities they deserve.

It was in Peckham I resolved that this must change. It’s why I became an economist. It’s why I’ve spent the last 15 years developing and campaigning for big to bring this change about - from working at the heart of the last Labour government, to being CEO of the New Economics Foundation.

The need for change has never been more urgent. I’ve listened to people from across our community. People are worried about the cost of living, the lack of homes they can afford, our schools and hospitals at breaking point and a police force they no longer trust. Above all else, I know you’re tired of being held down by an economy that doesn’t work. It’s time for change.
