It's the honour of my life to represent you in parliament. I've listened to the community, and my top priorities will be:
End the cost-of-living crisis: support families struggling with rising costs, get energy bills down, make work pay with a real living wage and a New Deal for workers, and give parents a helping hand with free breakfast clubs in every primary school
Deliver the homes we need: build more homes, deliver the biggest boost to social housing in a generation, raise the quality and standards of homes across our area, and give first time buyers first dibs on new homes in Peckham
Get our NHS back: deliver quality care for you by cutting waiting lists, more out of hours services, creating more GP and dentist appointments and giving the NHS the doctors, nurses and staff it needs and the pay they deserve
Build a greener future: tackle the climate crisis and inequality together with our Green Prosperity Plan to deliver cheaper, cleaner energy, insulate your homes, improve public transport and create good jobs that pay a good wage
Make our streets safe: deliver more neighbourhood policing to tackle knife crime, gangs and antisocial behaviour while reforming and rebuilding trust in our police force
"I could not be more pleased that my successor, with your support, will be Miatta Fahnbulleh. She is a dynamic young woman economist. She’s staunchly Labour and from South London. She will stand up for the constituency and will, I have no doubt, blaze a trail in parliament."
Harriet Harman MP
"I’ve been a champion in the Sierra Leonean community for 10 years. Our community needs an MP that is one of our own and understands the issues we face. Miatta is clear about that change we need and is willing to fight for it. We need her as our MP."
Abdul Wahab Seisay, NHS Professional, DJ, Southwark Community Champion since 2012
"Miatta is a leading voice on the need to change our economy, with the ideas to bring this about. She would bring national profile to the issues affecting local people and I know she will be a great MP for Peckham."
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester
"As we stare into the final, dangerous dregs of Tory government, Peckham has never been in greater need of Miatta’s experience, vision, determination and compassion. More than that, she has a genuinely compelling plan for empowering communities to build a fairer, greener, kinder world."
Ros Wynne-Jones, Daily Mirror columnist, Peckham member
"I’ve known Miatta for almost 10 years and she understands the imbalance of power and wealth that is rigging the economy against working class people and driving inequality. She is one of the few people that puts forward bold & credible solutions in response. The labour movement needs Miatta as the next MP for Peckham."
Dave Ward, General Secretary, Communications Workers Union
"Miatta is the Labour MP we need here. She’s community-focused, driven by Labour values and has a clear vision of a better, fairer society. She is already leading the way, developing new economic policies to tackle the injustices of inequality and the growing threat of the climate crisis. We need Miatta as our powerful and effective champion in the Labour Party and Westminster."
Fiona Colley, Vice-Chair Peckham Rye Branch and former Nunhead Councillor (2002-18)
As your MP, I promise four things.
I will be rooted in this community, work tirelessly for you and make your issues my issues. I will open a constituency office so we have a hub in the community, hold regular surgeries and work with the Council, community groups, trade unions and local members to deliver change locally.
I will campaign for a living income so everyone can afford to live well; universal childcare and social care, free at the point of need; a right to homes we can afford; power in your hands; and a Green Prosperity Plan. I will use my voice on the national stage to win changes nationally that will deliver real change locally.
I will reach out to all parts of our community, bridge divides and unite us so that we can work together to win change.
Standing on the shoulders of Harriet Harman, I will continue her fight for feminism and equality. I will fight for women’s rights, where we still have far to go, be a strong anti-racist voice and defend our LGBTQ+ communities. I will always use my voice to speak out for marginalised communities and call out discrimination in all its forms.
